tEACHING IS MY PASSION, MAKE LANGUAGE LEARNING YOURS
I am David, a German native, and I have been a teacher of English and German for the past 14 years. I turned my passion into my profession, I love teaching and I would not trade it for any other job in the world.
My goal as an educator has always been to help my students to make the most of their abilities but at the same time to try to make them enjoy their learning process.
My own language learning journey started 25 years ago with English and I have also studied Latin, French, Spanish and Portuguese since then. Therefore, I am familiar with the difficulties and pitfalls surrounding the learning of another language.
I believe that anyone can learn a language successfully. Surely some learners might be more gifted than others, but so far I have always found a way to help any student improve, no matter how unmotivated or unconfident they were and regardless of their level and grades at school. In the end, they enjoyed the process of learning a new language and I helped them to achieve their goals.
Being good at language learning is similar to being good at sports. It requires a lot of practice, motivation and determination to become proficient and success generally does not come immediately but it takes time for the hard work to pay off. However, if you develop the right habits and consistently work on your skills, you will see progress quickly.
Ever since I first started teaching in 2004, I have been dedicated to improving and becoming more skillful as an educator so I can support my students to achieve their best. In order to do that I rely on three three pillars of outstanding teaching, both in theory and practice:
1. Expert subject knowledge
2. Expert pedagogical knowledge
3. Expert psychological knowledge
I have completed several certificates in Positive Psychology and integrated and applied this knowledge in my teaching to help my students to develop their mental strength and confidence but also their ability to persevere which I think are all essential qualities nowadays. Giving the learners more confidence in themselves and their abilities also had a very positive effect on their learning and their academic achievement.
I have also used the findings from the science of Positive Psychology to raise students' awareness of how valuable it is for them to find their true passion in life, with the hope that they are courageous enough to turn their passion into a successful and personally fulfilling career.
